A Showcase of CALA Aquafit Certification Courses and Trainer and Assessor Certification

CALA Upcoming Event Schedule and Registration Forms 

Due to our innovative and trend-setting style, new courses are constantly being developed and added.  Attending courses enables aspiring leaders, current leaders, personal trainers, coaches and participants to learn new information and to earn CALA CECs (Continuing Education Credits) and credits with many organizations.

If you are interested in hosting an educational event please contact the CALA.

  1. Become a CALA Aquafit Instructor

Required:  Get your CALA Instructor Certification First
(see below for details)

To get your Instructor Certification you must:

  1. First complete the Vertical Waters Training Course pre-requisite.
  2. Once you have completed the  Vertical Waters Training VWT you will choose a specialty course

CECs are offered for all CALA Training Events except the initial taking of the Vertical Waters Training.

 
  1. Become a CALA Trainer

Once you are an experienced CALA Instructor you may choose to join the CALA Training Team and become a:

CALA Certified Trainer  
Conduct workshops and certification courses

CALA Practical Assessor
Assess persons taking practical CALA certification and mark written exams

CALA Mentor
(Mentors are always needs to help develop new instructors to their highest quality instructor potential.


 Instructor Certification

  1. Pre-requisite Course

  • Vertical Waters Training (required) pdf

    The Foundations of Vertical Water Training (VWT) Course is 20 hours in length and sets the stage for you to choose one or more specialty certifications. Refer to the above is a flow chart.

    Once the VWT pdf course and an open book theory exam are completed, you are eligible to proceed to the specialty certification of your choice.

  1. CALA Aquafit Specialty Certification Courses (see table below for assessment requirements)

You can choose from all or any one of the following Specialty Courses once you have the Pre-requisite Vertical Water Training course

  • Group Aqua Fitness (GAF) pdf
    Most people choose to get their certification in Group Aqua Fitness. This is another 20 hour course and in order to achieve certification as a GAF instructor, you will need to do a 30 minute practical assessment (a mini class) and complete an assignment.

  • Water Running/Jogging  pdf

  • Introduction to Aquafitness pdf

  • Yoga pdf

  • Hydro Rider pdf

  • Aqua Post-Rehabilitation Program
    (This program consists of two compulsory course: Healing Power and Introduction to Therapy, and other specialty courses offered over an extended period of time): 

    • Healing Power (compulsory)

    • Introduction to Therapy (compulsory)

    • Other Specialty Post-Rehabilitation Courses in development

    • Aqua Arthritis 

    • Aqua Back Splash 

    • Aqua Joint Rehabilitation 

    • Aqua Sports Injuries 

    • Aqua Cardiac Rehabilitation 

    • Aqua Multiple Sclerosis 

    • Aqua Breast Cancer 

    • Aqua Osteoporosis 

    • MVA Rehabilitation 

Once you are CALA certified you will need to do the following:

1) Maintain your membership status on an annual basis
2) Attend 8 hours of workshops or other specialty courses. Note: If you attend more than 8 hours of workshops, you can bank your extra credits (CECs) and use them for future recertification. You never lose the credits that you earn. If you are unable to attend workshops or a conference, you can petition for CECs by attending other events that are related to fitness
3) Pay a recertification fee

CALA Foundations of Vertical Water Training (VWT): The Charlene Kopansky Method
• 20-24 hours - Pre-Requisite VWT Course:
• Open Book Theory Exam : 2.5 hours
• Includes Active Theory and Practical Application through Experiential Learning
Choose one or more of the following CALA Specialty Certifications: 16-20 hours each (16-20 CECs)
