Become a Trainer

CALA welcomes new trainers who are interested in promoting the CALA philosophy, skills and knowledge.

If you are interested please, contact CALA for further information about becoming a CALA Trainer.

How to become a CALA Trainer

Policy 1

  • Current CALA membership

Policy 2

  •  Current CPR and First Aid

Policy 3

  •  Current Liability Insurance

Here are some of the companies that offer Liability Insurance to certified fitness instructors:

  • SPORTS AND FITNESS CANADA
  • TROTHEN AND MCCONKEY  1-888-346-6602 QUOTE "CALA"

Policy 4

  • CALA Course Completed

Must complete a CALA Combined Basic Fitness Theory and Aquafitness Leadership Training Course (40 hours).

Note: If you have only had the opportunity to participate in one part of the Foundation Course - formerly called the Fast Track Course, then it is imperative that you either attend a Complete Foundation Course (formerly called the Total Track) or host a Foundation Course (Part I and II) whereby you can choose to apprentice train the first weekend (which is Part I: Fast Track) and attend the second weekend, observing the trainer and learning how the material is facilitated. Then you would have to apprentice train the second weekend on another occasion under the supervision of a designated `Master' Trainer.

Policy 5

  • Current CALA Certification or Re-certification Status

Must have successfully completed CALA Certification procedure (theory exam & practical assessment.)

Policy 6

  • Attend a CALA Training for Trainers Course

Usually held annually. We do expect trainers to attend a T for T at least every two years, once approved as trainers for the Foundation Course (Total Track/Fast Track). Our vision is to build a team of trainer to facilitate the Foundation Course and a variety of specialty courses and/or workshops that suit specific trainer expertise

Policy 7

  • Apprentice Train sections of the course with a designated `Master' trainer

Policy 8

  • Earn Trainer Status Once you have apprentice trained, you will receive feedback on your training and a decision will be made about your readiness to train "on your own". If your master trainer agrees that you are ready to train on your own, the next time you train the section that you have apprenticed and been approved in, you will be paid.

Policy 9

  • Earn Full Trainer Status You must be approved on every section of the course to attain this status. On occasion two different trainers will train a course due to different areas of expertise.

Policy 10

  • Reimbursement dependent on course.

This program is currently under review and may not be exactly as stated above.  Please contact CALA to discuss details of the program.
